Learn a little more about Shahab Afsharian , Gymja Warrior's Founder.

Q: Shahab, How did you come up with the idea for Gymja Warrior?
A: Having three active boys in my family pretending to be the next American Ninja Warrior while jumping off playgrounds and climbing trees for fun is a daily thing during the summer. One day while watching the TV show, Dariush, my 7-year-old son told me that it would be awesome to be able to learn how to do some of the Parkour stunts performed by one of the contestants in the show.

We put them both together and that is when my wife and I thought of creating a space where kids, teens and athletes could train to be the Next Ninja while getting fit and learning visually exciting and creative moves and techniques found in Parkour.

Q: Why did you name it Gymja Warrior?
A: Since we are creating a gym inspired by the show American Ninja Warrior and will teach a mix of Parkour, rock climbing and freerunning. We thought that the name Gymja Warrior  would relate to all types of athletes right away. And it has.

Q: What is Parkour and is it safe?
A: Parkour is a complete training discipline using movement that developed from military obstacle course training. Practitioners aim to get from A to B in the most efficient way possible while keeping head, elbows and knees safe! This is done using only the human body and the surroundings for propulsion, with a focus on maintaining as much momentum as possible while still remaining safe. Parkour can include obstacle courses, running, climbing, swinging, vaulting, jumping, rolling, quadrupedal movement, and the like, depending on what movement is deemed most suitable for the given situation and obstacle. With this in mind, we are teaching this discipline so that kids can learn how to keep safe while learning some really cool tricks.

Q: Do your students need to have some kind of athletic or gymnastic background?
A: No, once students enroll in their age appropriate classes, they will complete a class assessment conducted by their Sensei and will be taught within that class according to their level.

Q: What should people expect at Gymja Warrior classes? How long are the classes and how long are the sessions?
A: All classes offered at Gymja Warrior are age appropriate and will run for 90 minutes. Our classes have been designed to meet our student’s skill levels with individual level coaching in limited size classes. Students will progressively learn how to express themselves through movement on all types of obstacles focusing primarily in improving full body strength in fun, challenging ways while teaching visually exciting and creative moves and techniques found in Gymanstics, Parkour, Freerunning and Rock Climbing.

Q: I see 3 different size warped walls and one just look like the one in the show. Why?
A: When we built the 15.5ft tall warped wall, we already went a ft and a half taller than the one in the show so we thought it would be a good idea to add 2 extra warped walls for young kids/teens to be able to conquer. We did not want them to get discouraged so we went ahead and got the blue prints to do the mini version at 8ft tall and 11ft tall so that age appropriate students can conquer the wall as well.

Q: Did you design the obstacles?
A: Partnering up with Nathan, a Master Carpenter, contractor and former US Soldier with years of experience building and completing military level obstacle courses was as important as getting the commercial blue prints for the obstacles. We also partnered with ROGUE, the company behind the rigs found in CrossFit’s all over the world to build a custom made Monster Rig to imitate some of the obstacles in the show as well as allow the students to practice Parkour in their top notch monkey bar setting.

Q: What do people wear to class?
A: We recommend running shoes and comfortable cloths. No Crocs or boots are accepted.

Q: What if I can't make it to class? What is the make-up policy?
A: As long as we know you can't make class, we will do everything possible to accommodate you in any of our other classes as long as you are a member.

Q:What is the cancellation policy?
A: We don't have a cancellation policy. We understand that things change and we will never have to force anyone to keep up with their commitment. As long as we know in advance, we don't have a problem!

Q:Can I sign up if I am an adult?
A:Yes, we have adult times for classes and open gym primarily Monday-Thursday from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
